This Holiday Season Tell Employees You’re Grateful
In an effort to make the holidays more meaningful for our readers, we thought we would veer from our usual blog content and provide you with some tips on how to show appreciation and make the holidays fun for your employees this holiday season.
Following are a few ideas:
1. Provide paid adequate time off for holiday travel and time with family.
The holidays are hectic with shopping, travel, parties, etc. Cut your employees some slack and be flexible. They will surely appreciate it.
2. Gift them with a turkey or bonus check.
Money is tight during the holiday season and this is a great way to say
“Thank you.”
3. Give small gifts of appreciation.
• Gift cards for places like Dunkins’ or a local eatery
• Chocolates with a “Thank you” note
• A catered lunch (inviting their families would be extra-special!)
• Gifts with your company logo: fine pens, leather notebooks, briefcases, lunch kits, or sweaters
4. Help someone in need.
Nothing will make employees feel better during the holidays than helping someone in need. Collect food, coats, or toys for needy or homeless people. There is so much joy in giving! And making a party of it is even more fun.
5. Have a baked goods day! Have employees bring cookies, cakes, pies, and brownies to work. It will make everyone happy. And they get to take goodies home to their families.
6. A Yankee Swap is fun for all.
Employees bring inexpensive presents (make sure you limit cost to no more than $20) to swap with each other. Everyone has fun without spending lots of money.
7. Remember at any holiday gathering to serve food that allows employees from any culture or religious background to partake.
And always provide a vegetarian option.
8. Keep office celebrations secular to honor diverse beliefs.
Look for ways to include people from all backgrounds.
9. Have a New Year Goal-Setting Party!
Consider a lunch or cocktail hour to celebrate the goals and prospects for the New Year. Review your company’s mission statement and vision. Most importantly, ask employees for their ideas on how to make the company more efficient and productive. This is a fun way to involve employees at every level to be a contributing part of the company.
If employees don’t feel comfortable speaking out, have them put their written ideas anonymously into a basket for a roundtable discussion.
There are many ways you can show your appreciation to your employees, no matter what your budget may be. And it doesn’t have to be in December—many companies have parties in January when everyone is a bit more relaxed.
Happy Holidays!
